Two weeks of gratitude in one

Because of my daughter’s birthday last Monday, and a whole list of reasons, this is my two-week list of gratitude…

A gift picked up, put away, put back:

  • sweet girl, picked up and taken care of, with this funny fever and virus
  • end of the year school stuff, put away on the shelf!
  • better choice made and something returned to the shelf

3 gifts about you:

  • I am very loyal
  • I like to cook
  • I enjoy helping other people

3 gifts found in His word:

  • And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.” Matthew 26:39
  • The angel of the Lord came again a second time and touched him and said, “Arise, eat, because the journey is too great for you.” So he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mountain of God. 1 Kings 19:7-8
  •  Such confidence we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God, who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. 2 Corinthians 3:4-6

A gift in a box, bag, book

  • peas in my raised garden box, so tall they’re reaching above the trellis, and now blooming with abandon
  • an unexpected ten-dollar bill to take to the conference
  • Brennan Manning’s Ruthless Trust. Yes, this ruthless trust is what I want…

3 gifts unexpected:

  • long-lost friend, found at a conference
  • hearing speakers like Debra Bell and Sally Clarkson speak to my weary mama’s heart
  • mango smoothie on a park bench

3 gifts from my childhood:

  • childhood friend I still have and cherish
  • love of the Word, instilled by my parents
  • sister who’s also a friend–with whom I get go on a very exciting journey to Ethiopia

A gifts sweet, sour, salty:

  • making birthday truffles with my daughter
  • orange after chocolate
  • tears for Oklahoma, sadness for those who lost their lives, but gratitude that it wasn’t more people than it was

3 gifts found in little people:

  • getting to play with my friend’s littles–the simple excitement over play dough!
  • rapture over a marble run, done over and over and over…
  • belly laughs over dog’s fur

3 gifts that made me laugh:

  • sweet youngest daughter turning nine
  • jokes by 6-year-old
  • listening to sons, up way too late, laughing and talking (and not arguing!)

3 gifts found in community:

  • being the only two to show up for girls’ night out means deep conversation and time to catch up–so grateful for our time Valeria!
  • stepping out in faith, fear and trembling, and being embraced instead of ostracized
  • someone I can email or text and know a prayer is going up immediately, and will do the same for her

A gift in a plate, a pot, a package:

  • dinner with friends and a new gluten-free recipe
  • big batch of tomato sauce cooked up and frozen
  • great deal on homeschooling product, come in the mail

3 gifts hard giving thanks for:

  • camera borrowed and left in a puddle by a wee one who knew better but meant no harm 😦
  • the season we’re in
  • watching grandparents age

A gift worn, whispered, white

  • favorite brown sandals, pulled out for summer
  • quiet prayer in the service
  • new white summer shirt
