Gratitude in a month already gone

It seems like yesterday the year was just beginning and now the first month is gone. I spent most of it tending sick children, working, and being sick myself, so it passed in a blur. But there was plenty to be thankful for. Here’s my list for the week:

Three graces found in friends:

  • email threads for beef, growing children AND gardens, and encouraging each other while it’s still called “today”…
  • intentional friendship and what we do to make it work long distance
  • phone calls about dog kennels, umbrella schools, and stuff

A song heard, a soft word, a light seen:

  • How He Loves Me
  • phone call with assurances of safety–a dear friend and her family’s farm took a direct hit from an EF 2 tornado, with damage encircling their entire home, and while the front porch was torn off, the bird-feeders were still on the eaves and the flowers left unscathed in the flower box. Thankful that the Lord’s hand covered them and their home during the storm!
  • sunset of unbelievable colors

3 old things seen new:

  • the book of Romans, savored slowly and intentionally
  • Exodus–catching up on a sermon series online, while I breakfasted–caught unawares and brought to my knees
  • the word “perfect” in the New Testament

A gift on paper, in a person, in a picture:

  •  a name tag that says I still belong
  • an elder who always has a smile and a hug when I need it
  • old beach picture, when my littles were really little:)

Three gifts red:

  • red cardinal in the snow
  • robin redbreasts by the hundreds before the storm
  • red ukulele on the wall

Three gifts on paper:

  • encouraging note from a friend that helps keep me going
  • enjoying an old book with my younger daughter
  • Romans project finally printed out

Three gifts in writing

  • “If Your presence does not go with us, do not lead us up from here.” Exodus 33:15
  • “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,” says the Lord of hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows.” Malachi 3:10
  • my daughter gathering a thankful list each month from her younger siblings
